Publications 2009-10

Show/pop/jazz

1) Rock of Ages
This is the opening number from the Broadway show, “Rock of Ages.” I thought it made the perfect opening number for show/pop choir. Great message with a little edge.

2) Cinema Italiano
From the movie, “Nine”, this is the Kate Hudson go-go number.....big brass, sultry vocals, hip and slick.

3) Keep Holding On
Glee, Glee, Glee “say it lound and there’s music playing” . Everybody loves Glee and the success of the show has changed many of our musical worlds. (until the next thing comes along) I loved this version of the Avril Lavigne song and so I adapted the Glee arrangement for publication. You can see all our Glee stuff at fox.com/glee.

4) So Much Better
From the musical, “Legally Blonde”, this is one of Elle’s big numbers that works for mixed groups. It features a strong lead and musically, it never seems to never make it to a root chord or find many rhythms on the beat.... Sounds like fun, huh?

5) He Ain't Heavy, He’s My Brother
Love this song...wanted to give this a gospel, bring down the rafters kinda treatment.
The song’s message is even more important today. Great closer....

6) Sunday
Stephen Sondheim has recently joined the Hal Leonard family and we plan bring a whole variety of his music to the choral world. Amazing stuff....brilliant man.    From “Sunday in the Park with George”....

7) The Look Of Love
This is in the jazz vocal bag. A nice easy latin beat with a few juicy chords. ... a great Bacharach/David song.

8) (I’ve Had) The Time of My Life
Can you believe that this standard wasn’t in print? I put a stop to that. I did all 5 min. of this pop classic. While I did make a few cuts from the original, I still wanted to sound epic, like an anthem. (It’s kinda the Macarthur Park of the 80’s) perfect for graduation.

9) Livin On A Prayer
Yes, Bon Jovi has arrived in the choral program. (blame Glee) As my friend Roger Emerson says, “It sings in the pocket”. It’s become a standard and has a universal message.

10) Almost Like Being In Love
We released this arrangement several years back but restricted to selling it via the internet. Needlessto say, we sold 3... since then our deal changed with the song and here it is in print. (and online) Sort of lush and old fashioned.

11) Raining Sunshine
From the movie, “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs” this is fun tune for tweeners and younger.

12) I Believe
This is the 10:30 ballad from the show “Altar Boyz” Great song with a great lyric.

13) One Dream
This is the Sarah MacLachlan theme song for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.

ssa/ttbb

14) Sugar Sugar Medley - SSA
The byline for this little medley is “A Sweet of Songs for SSA”. (insert gag reflex here) For the freshman women’s chorus, it’s short, cute, easy and fun.
Sugar, Sugar
Lollipop
The Candy Man
The Peppermint Twist

15) Angels - TTBB
I love this Robbie Williams song ...especially with men’s voices....this is really powerful stuff.

Discovery

FYI. Discovery titles are for middle school SAB and 2 pt. easy easy easy. we produce a part prominent CD for rehearsal.

16) Lion King Medley
This seemed to be a no-brainer. The perfect material for the perfect age.
The Circle of Life
Can’t Wait to Be King
Hakuna Matata

17) The Way You Look Tonight
Easy, swing version with a big track. Great song for kids to learn to swing.

18) Twist and Shout
This one’s fun, straight forward and accessible for all.

The holiday package

19) Swing Into Christmas
A cool 3 song set..
In the Mood (for Christmas)
Silver Bells
I’ll Be Home for Christmas

20) Home On Christmas Day
From the Kristin Chenoweth Christmas album, loved this sweet song....particularlly if one has family stationed overseas... very tender and touching

21) Jingaling - SSA
The circus is in town. This is an old Andrew Sisters song from the Disney song archives that is silly, fun and a tour de force showstopper.

22) The Most Wonderful Time
It’s the opening number for the community chorus Christmas Sing-out!
......think Andy Williams Christmas Special.

Jai Ho

In 1996, I published a 45min. medley of movie songs called, "Cinemagic”. Now, 14 years later, we’re updating the show with a 16 min. medley called, “Cinemania.” Scene 1 rolls through a whole variety of great songs. Scene 2 are ballads from Twilight to Titanic. Scene 3 is a rousing closing, ending with Jai Ho from "Slumdog Millionare".  Enjoy!

24) The Princess and the Frog

This is the Randy Newman music from Disney’s “The Princess and the Frog”. Up, theatrical and diverse in style. Some Dixieland, a beautiful ballad, and closing gospel number makes for a fun 11min medley.

25) Rock with You

This is my tribute to Michael Jackson. 15 min of great music...I framed the medley with We Are the world...He was a genius and gone too soon.

26) I Have a Dream - medley from Mamma Mia (the movie) for SSA

Research at Hal Leonard has uncovered that 13-14 yr old girls love the movie of Mamma Mia. So...viola, a four song medley that should satisfy your young girls choir.

27) North Pole Musical - with John Jacobson

35 min. original show for upper elemntary singers for the holidays. It’s our parody to putting on a show with references to A Chorus Line, Glee, High School Musical, Thriller, and the entire Nutcracker Suite told in 3 min. It’s pretty insane....perfect for Christmas.

28) Alice in Wonderland - opening theme - concert choral - chamber group acc.

29) Hello Goodbye - Beatles tune used in Glee!
